The iSpring RCC7AK-UV Deluxe Sterilizer is a very good reverse osmosis water filtering system, capable of eliminating most of the usual debris, chemicals, microorganisms, and bacteria from your water source. In the following article, we take a closer look at how this water filter works, which are its pros and cons, and how efficient the unit actually is.

As America's favorite brand of reverse osmosis systems, and backed by iSpring’s industry-leading customer support, the RCC7AK-UV is unequaled in quality, performance, and durability. This Deluxe system consists of 7-stage, layered filtration built around precision reverse osmosis (RO) technology that removes over 1000+ different kinds of contaminants in order to provide the best home drinking water filtration available. Unlike some other systems, the combination of both GAC and CTO filters in the 2nd and 3rd stages provides greater protection against harmful chemicals than CTO alone. It features a 75 gallon-per-day capacity RO membrane, which is larger than most in its class and provides the capacity to economically handle the drinking water needs of even a large family.

After flowing through the initial 5 stages of the iSpring RCC7 line of Reverse Osmosis filtering products, the RCC7AK-UV model adds two more stages: an Alkaline Remineralization (AK) stage and an Ultraviolet (UV) sterilization stage. The UV sterilization stage kills the small percentage of viruses, bacteria, and other microorganisms that could potentially remain in the water after the RO process. Though most municipal water systems do an adequate job of removing organic microorganisms, the UV stage is a must if the source water is coming from a well, lake or stream where microorganisms breed, or other residential uses where bacteria is a concern. Combining a Reverse Osmosis filtration system with UV sterilization provides the most complete method of water purification available.

The RCC7AK-UV features an 11 watt sterilization lamp shielded in a safe, protective stainless steel housing versus the 6 watt lamp commonly found in other products. For greater efficiency, a flow sensor switch turns the UV unit on and off automatically with water flow, saving power and lengthening the life of the UV lamp.

The AK stage is designed to restore the natural alkalinity and mineral balance of the water. The RO process effectively generates pure water but it also removes a few helpful minerals in the process. The red mineral stone portion of the AK filter adds back healthy minerals including not just calcium, but also other beneficial minerals, like magnesium, that other systems don't. The calcite portion of the filter neutralizes the pH of the RO water. And the water tastes better too. Because RO water is so pure, many people find it tastes unnatural. Many people prefer the more natural taste that comes from the presence of some minerals in the water. Remineralization restores just the right proportion of healthy minerals.

Designed for do-it-yourself installation by most users, the entire system fits nicely under a standard kitchen sink. Installation is straightforward and all parts necessary for installation are included. You are guided by clear, well organized written instructions, instructional videos and access to iSpring’s unparalleled technical support.

The system is quiet and low maintenance with no moving parts. Replacement filters are standard sized and sold at factory direct pricing. A lead-free, solid brass faucet with brushed nickel finish is included with the system and is usually mounted on the counter as the primary source of drinking water, but output lines can also be connected to your ice maker, coffee maker, etc.

This RO filter is small enough to fit in a standard kitchen counter cabinet, and it’s fairly easy to install. The unit comes with written instructions, but you can also check out video tutorials or contact their customer service for a professional guidance. Besides, all the lines are color coded, and the instructions will guide you step-by-step through the installation process. The system has a 1-year limited warranty and a lifetime technical support.

This model comes with a complete filter pack. You will benefit from an alkaline pH filter, which will remineralize the water making it better tasting and healthier, and from a UV light as well. The UV light is great for killing bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms usually found in a water source.

Besides the filtering system, you will also receive a faucet when you buy a unit. The faucet has a solid brass construction and a brushed nickel finish, making it very durable. The faucet has an elegant U design and it will make a great addition to every kitchen, either with a classical or a modern design.

The filtration system consists of 7 processing stages, each one designed to progressively remove contaminants and improve water quality:

  • 3 Pre-filters: PP sediment filter. Carbon KDF (GAC) filter. Carbon block (CTO) filter. They remove large contaminants and protect the RO membrane from chemicals like chlorine and chloramines.
  • The heart of the system is the Reverse Osmosis (RO) filter that removes contaminants down to 0.0001 microns – so small that only water molecules can squeeze through but virtually nothing else.
  • Fine GAC filter provides final polishing before the purified water is delivered to the faucet.
  • A powerful 11 watt Ultraviolet Sterilization stage provides an additional level of protection against a wide variety of microorganism that might make it past the RO filter.
  • An Alkaline Remineralization filter restores healthy minerals and a natural alkaline balance, while also producing a more natural taste.
  • The end result is great-tasting bottled-water quality.

The iSpring RCC7AK-UV has an efficiency ratio of 2:1. This means that 2 gallons of wastewater will be produced for every gallon of fresh water. This is a very efficient unit. Some RO filtering systems can produce up to 20 gallons of wastewater for a gallon of pure water, and it’s usually considered that filtering systems with a ratio smaller or equal to 4:1 is efficient.

Using an efficient unit is not only cheaper in the long run, but it’s also better for the environment since less water is wasted.

High-quality filters are somewhat of a specialty for iSpring, so this model benefits from the best they have to provide. The filters are guaranteed to remove up to 99% of all the debris, bacteria, viruses, and chemicals from your water source. The filters are very efficient in removing everything foul from the water, but you have to change them periodically. Most people should replace the filters once every six months to a year, depending on the quality of their water source.

In addition to the standard filtration most reverse osmosis systems use, this model also uses a carbonite filter for water remineralization and a red mineral filter which will add ionized minerals to your water source. Both filters are actually two separate sections of the sixth filtering step. This will make the water healthier and better tasting.

The UV light is capable of killing viruses, bacteria, and other microorganisms from your water source, so it will provide a better water quality. This makes the iSpring RCC7AK-UV better suited for well water than other RO filtering systems. The UVB light is automatically turned on when the water flow is running, and it will turn off a few seconds after the water is turned off, making sure that the water which already entered the installation is germ-free.

I purchased this system in February 2018, I wanted to wait a while to see how it performed before writing a review. I have a background in water quality and am a bit of a water snob so I had very high expectations for quality and the water it produced.

Installation was great, they include everything you need to install it on existing equipment. It attached to the cold water angle stop for your sink, they have a nice brass t fitting that will adapt to whatever you have under your sink either 3/8 or 1/2. it included an isolation valve so you can easily turn off your filter system for maintenance and carriage replacement. As a plumber I was very pleased with install. I am very picky in the way I put things together and it still only took me about an hour or so. I bet you could do the job in 30 minutes if you were in a hurry.

Parameters: my tap water has any where from 250-400 ppm total dissolved solids (TDS). That's pretty standard for municipal water in southern California. still that is allot of stuff dissolved in the water including lead, arsenic, chloramine, and trace chemicals. Ph from tap is about 7.8. Coming out of the RO membrane before it hits the Alkaline cartridge I got a TDS of about 9-14 ppm. That is pretty incredible. the finished Alkalinity from this system was 8.8! perfect alkaline water. the mineral content was a great also, about 40-60mg/L of Carbonate hardness and 60mg/L general hardness. That means the perfectly minneraled and alkalized water free from chemicals, heavy metals or any harmful contaminates.

The flavor as you can imagine is incredible. I use it to brew beer with, my friends cant believe the quality of my brew, the secret is the water. I use it to brew kombucha with similar results. I use it to fill my fish tanks, the African Cichlids need the high Ph.

Finally the customer service for iSpring is impeccable. I bought a cartridge replacement and has some issues, customer service was quick to handle my issue and did not cost me a dime to make it right.

Excellent R/O System. I installed the iSpring RCC7AK-UV 7-Stage R/O water filtration system myself. It was easy with simple to follow instructions. I did a lot of research before buying this product and found iSpring to be the best for quality/price/performance. In addition to the standard 4 stage R/O filter system, this system includes a UV filter, a PH Filter for adding back important minerals and a polishing filter. These extra stages are important for your health and well worth the extra cost. I have recommended this product to several of my family members and friends and will continue to recommend it.iSpring RCC7AK-UV 7-Stage Under-Sink Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Filtration System with Alkaline Remineralization Filter and UV Sterilizer – 75 GPD

I bought two of these units in 2015 and a few weeks ago one started spraying water from a manufacturing defect from the cap of the first stage filter. I called ISPRING technical support and told them what was happening, when I purchased the units (because they asked) and they told me to please send a letter to them with the serial number and the receipt and they would get a cap out to me asap. Oh…. that didn't happen at all. I sent them the same info twice (receipt, phone number, address, Amazon order numbers… EVERYTHING…..TWICE) after a week of “Oh we didn't get your receipt”, “Oh, we need your address”, Oh we need your phone number” Then they told me that I was out of warranty and the cap (if I wanted one) would cost $30 and that I should call them to order one.

If you are looking for a company that stands behind their product AND appreciates consumer loyalty (having spent over a $1000 on filters and filter media) then look elsewhere. I certainly will.

UPDATE: 10/13/18
1. I have updated my review of this horrible product to include pictures of the micro-fracture in the stage 1 cap. It is on the side, and not originating from the screws that attached the stage 1 thru 3 filer canisters to the metal platform as I had thought… This is much worse and inexcusable.

2. I have yet another reason (besides horrible quality control and construction and customer service). I am attaching pictures to help illustrate why YOU SHOULD NOT BUY AN ISPRING FILTER SYSTEM.

It turns out that 20 years ago I bought a PurePro 6 stage filter for my first house. When the ISPRING started spewing water a few weeks ago and I had the horrible experience with ISPRING Technical support, horrible customer loyalty, and horrible customer service described above, I started detaching ISPRING first three stages from the metal frame… and of course, I broke the plastic connector that is how the water moves from stage 1 into stage 2 (as well as from stage 2 to stage 3 canister). In hind sight I now know that the medal frame was how I was able to change the filters (remove the lower part of the stage 1 thru 3 canisters). When not connected to the frame the first three stages are FRAGILE.

Anyway, I went to my attic and got the old one thinking that I might be able to use the stage 1 cap as all of these units seem to be using an industry standard size. What I found wasn’t an ISPRING (what I thought I had bought all those years ago), but rather a PurePro 6 stage Reverse Osmosis Water Purification System. That was when I saw that they connect the stage 1 thru 3 canisters in a much more logical, functional and practical way that completely eliminate the fragile connector connecting each of the first three stages. Look at the following link closely PurePro 6 stage Reverse Osmosis Water Purification System With Infra-Red Filter & Pump, 50 Gallons Per Day and you will see that Pure Pro STILL (20 years later) uses the much better design that connects each of the stages via flexible hose. Any leaks you may have due to the increased connections is TOTALLY mitigated by how easy it is to get to them and tighten or re-tape the screwed connector. The pictures attached are with the filters but with some of the PurePro flexible connectors (since the ISPRING connectors broke when I tried to unscrew the bottom half of the stage one).

ISPRING is a horrible company and product and they do not deserve your business. I strongly advise you give PruePro a look, but quite honestly, any other company would be a better choice.

My handyman recommended this water filtration system for healthier, better tasting water from my sink and from my refrigerator in-door water/ice dispenser. Even with my expectations high from his recommendation, I was still happily surprised just how much tastier my water and ice are. My water flow is good and it works well. After having the system for over a month, I'm glad to find myself drinking more water and no longer purchasing plastic water bottles.

Review 5

I have been searching for a water filter for a long time. I finally decided on the 7-stage Gold Sea. Great choice! Water filter was easy to install. Customer Service is great! Nick was happy to help me with installation and care. I would recommend to anyone looking for a healthier water alternative.

Conclusion

This model comes with a complete filter pack. You will benefit from an alkaline pH filter, which will remineralize the water making it better tasting and healthier, and from a UV light as well. The UV light is great for killing bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms usually found in a water source.
