This is definitely superior to other collagen powders I've tried, because it dissolves completely and has very little taste. Apparently, that's because it is hydrolyzed; when I bought collagen that had not been hydrolyzed (gelatin), it immediately made lumps when mixed in liquid and tasted bad to boot.
With this product, though, I can mix it in coffee, milk or juice and it doesn't significantly affect texture or taste. Big improvement! I mix it in yogurt or oatmeal, and it would be fine in soups or other food.
I estimate I'm getting at least 15 extra grams of protein a day by using this.
As to benefits of adding collagen to my diet, I think my joints are more able to withstand stresses like gardening and pilates class since I've been taking it. My wrists, for example, used to make a little noise when I rotated them. Now, after at least six months of using collagen, they don't. So I'm sold on it.
First, I'm not Adam, I'm his wife Ellen :). (He has the Amazon Prime account). I got on the collagen powder trip after first trying liquid collagen from Costco but I hated the sweet stickiness of the “vial” and all the hard plastic it was made of. Collagen pills were huge and the recommended dose was about 4 a day which just is too many horsepills – and it didn't seem to work. So then I googled it and found a high end collagen powder and bought it and I was hooked. I did start with Vital Greens Bovine (great but very pricey) but I have found Zint to be just the same. My hair has been the happiest recipient. I have colored fine hair (Swedish/Norwegian) which was a split end extravaganza until I started using the collagen powder which has really changed my hair intrinsically. My hair is thicker than its ever been and I would say took it back about 15 years. The bald spot I had on the side of my head from just being stressed and a pre and now menopausal woman is totally gone. The length has gone at least 3 inches below my shoulders, all in a nice and full drop. Being a colon friendly person, I just mix the collagen with my Metamucil (sugar free) and powdered wheat grass and mix it with water and that's my Breakfast of Champions. Just the 16 oz of water alone is good for your body. Before you try 1) Rogaine – only if you really have male or woman pattern baldness and it runs in your family and it's not just a TEMP stress issue. You don't want to take an drugs that could complicate your situation 2) hair replacement – it's going to be expensive and really determine whether you need it.
In essence, I have not checked out the woman reviewer's claims that this product has changed but she is right that certain amino acids have less strength in the current Zint formula. I will give her credence and I will re-evaluate Zint vis-a -vis other powder collagen providers. But I will keep taking it as a supplement because I already have some and will let you all know what I find in terms of ingredients!
This is my favorite hydrolyzed collagen. I consume 40 grams of collagen protein daily in order to supplement my protein intake and increase amino acid variety. This has zero taste (some are actually really “beefy”…gross), and it has a larger particle size which both reduces mess and improves wetting, making mixing easier. The best part is that, with Subscribe and Save, Zint one of the cheapest sources of collagen protein available. As long as product quality and price stay the same, I will be a loyal customer!
I've been using Great Lakes for about 2 years. Zint has a finer texture, dissolves even faster in liquid, and has even less of a taste. One thing I was always concerned about was the source, and I really appreciate the care Zint has taken in that regard.
Highly recommended for anyone who has food sensitivities and has struggled with finding a protein powder free of dairy or soy.
I began taking this over 6 months ago to boost my protein intake, help with recovery workouts, and help control my appetite as I started eating healthier. It is great for what it claims to do—beautiful hair and nails, dry skin disappears, my cracked and itching elbows gone, muscle soreness after workouts completely GONE (as in I didn’t even feel like I worked out.). For a while, it was amazing…until it was too good to be true. While I lost weight steadily and gained muscle over the first 3 months or so, after that, I experienced inexplicable weight gain and real fat deposits that I couldn’t just explain away with holiday slips into unhealthy eating. (This was happening steadily way before that.). Turns out, after digging around a bit, that if you already eat a protein rich diet, adding collagen on top is just too much protein. Your body can’t use it all, and over time, that excess is stored as fat. (I found numerous web hits and articles about this—other people explaining that the same thing had happened to them.). I have stopped taking the collagen, have seen my skin dry out and my elbows get sore and cracked, my muscles are sore again after working out…but my plan is to get back to my normal weight and shape and then only take collagen sporadically as needed, not the recommended daily dose every day. Unless you seriously lack dietary protein, you just aren’t going to need this in the amounts recommended. Hope this information is helpful to someone else. It took me months to find out why I was eating better than ever and working out consistently and yet my body was NOT responding how I expected.
I am 84 yrs young and have good energy, i have been taking this Zint Hydrolyzed collagen for about a year now. I feel it helps my joints and overall health. I love that it completely dissolves in whatever liquid you use. i also add to my homemade soups for extra richness.
Mix it in coffee, smoothies, salad dressings or your favorite recipes for a simple way to supercharge your anti-aging supplement regime.
