Introduction

The [amazon link=”B009YA28ES” title=”GE GXWH40L High Flow Whole Home Filtration System” /] reduces dirt, silt, sand and rust in your water, providing a clear sump to view filter soil level.

[amazon link=”B009YA28ES” title=”GE GXWH40L High Flow Whole Home Filtration System” /] come with a nice mounting bracket that can be mounted for either water flow direction. The top cover can also be flipped depending on the water flow. It also includes the screws to mount it with. There is a thee way valve on top to allow you to turn off, bypass or allow flow through the filter.

A nice feature to come with, it saves shutting down the water to change filters. There is also other manufactures that make the filters cartridges that go into it, allows you a greater choice in filter elements to use. There is also a air bleed valve on it to purge the air in it after a filter change. That's a lot of nice things to have in a filter housing.

You must follow these guidelines as you install the Heavy-Duty Water Filtration Housing. Using a qualified installer is recommended. If the water supply conditions are unknown, contact your municipal water company.

This Heavy-Duty Water Filtration Housing must be properly installed and located in accordance with the Installation Instructions before it is used. You must follow their guides as you install the Heavy-Duty Water Filtration Housing. The filter cartridge will not purify water or make unsafe water safe to drink. DO NOT use on HOT water (100 ° F max). Water freezing in the housing will damage it. If your house water supply pressure is higher than 100 psi during the day (it may reach higher levels at night), install a pressure-reducing valve before the housing is installed.

Features

  • Heavy-duty filtration system: Clear sump allows for easy viewing of filter
  • Filters water at the main supply: Install system in basement and/or out of sight. Compatible Pipe Connections-Horizontal only
  • Premium filtration: Certified to reduce sediment, scale, dirt and rust in your water, appliances and plumbing fixtures
  • Easy installation: Includes 1″ plumbing connection, pressure relief valve, bypass option, mounting bracket and remote filter reminder light for simple installation and filter change
  • Three-month life: For best filtration results, filter (FXHTC or FXHSC) should be replaced every three months

Other Useful Information

It should be mounted as depicted. It comes with a steel bracket, and needs to be attached to a wall or studs. I attached my bracket to a 4 ft 2×6, which in turn was attached to a stud in the wall behind. It would certainly still function if rotated 90 degrees, but you'd spill out a half gallon of water at each filte… see more

10″ x 5″ is the size of the filter. Search Amazon for “GXWH40L replacement filter” and several options for filters are provided. The lower the micron size you choose, the finer the sediment particles are filtered out of your water. For example, a 5 micron filter catches more than a 25 micron filter.

Didn't know what to expect with these, I purchased two. They come with a nice mounting bracket that can be mounted for either water flow direction. I've installed several of these for customers and myself. This has been my “go to” because I never have any problems with any of them. Never had a housing crack or seal fail or any negative issue. I highly recommend this.

I used this as a 2nd stage filter the first stage filter I'm using is the ispring pre filter for sediment, dirt etc and its performing it's job pretty well but as far the ge whole house im using that as a 2nd stage cause i don't want to overburden this with everything so now ge does not have to work or perform that hard but overall all os good very happy with purchase.

This is a great deal. It appears to be well made, and I love that it came bundled with a sturdy wall mount. Since my house draws water from a private well, the high-flow filter is essential to minimize pressure loss. And you really can't beat the price… the mounting bracket alone will tack on an additional 20-30 dollars when comparison shopping. I'd say overall a great buy.

Really the only issue I have with this at all is due to the fact that I neglected to order filters at the same time, and they're now back ordered. Make sure you order yours with the filter!

After our plumber installed this filter system in our house we began to experience water hammer, pipe knock after the first time the filter was changed. When the control lever is set to bypass the filtration the knock goes away and returns when the lever is set to filter water. Our plumber said the problem is with the filter, and that an additional antiwater hammer valve will need to be installed costing about $125. The first filter changed orange with trapped sediment after a few days (we live in AZ). The second filter installed is still white but filters. Anyone else have this problem?

Hi quality and nice looking. Well made and coupled with the Icepure Big Blue Sediment and Activated Carbon Water Filter you cannot go wrong. I have had house filters before that I fought with to screw and unscrew and that leaked, but this unit is large and after having taken it apart a couple of times now, because I wanted to test it and to put a filter in and then to replace the filter because I left a washer out, I can say it is no big deal to unscrew and screw this can back home and it is leak free with just a snug up with the supplied can wrench. I would buy again

I have qty. 2 homes, and qty. 1 GEWH40L filter in each home. In one home, no water hammer issues. In another home, water hammer. When I isolate the filter (position qty. 3 ball valves correctly), the water hammer issue goes away = water hammer is DEFINITELY caused by the GEWH40L. There are a few other reviews here which state water hammer issues with this filter. I gave 2 stars because 1 of the 2 filters works good. I don't know if various pipe dynamics (elbow, bends, long runs, etc.) can contribute to water hammering – and I don't know if maybe the filter which causes water hammer is defective. Another reviewer here indicated that Amazon would not help with returns, so I don't think I'm going to try to hassle with a return. I'm going to try the Culligan WH-HD200-C.

I have two of these installed from well to the house. Adding a third to a storage tank.
Hint: The o-rings last longer if you hand-tighten the filter canister. Use the wrench to loosen only.

We kept getting water that seemed to have particles in it. We have city water and thought that it was no biggie. But – I decided to install this household filter system. The first time after installation we noticed that the showers did not have the chlorine, cool. Also after about 2 1/2 months it turned almost black and water pressure had reduced. . no biggie I replaced the filter. It was doing its job. Now for a surprise. About 2 weeks later it was really black and water pressure had went down. I thought that I had bought a bum filter. Replaced it and all was well. A couple of days later I found out the city had worked on the main water line. . . dirty water ran amuck. . our whole house and hot water heater would have suffered, except we had that filter. . . . yeaaaaa. Was easy to install. Plumbing knowledge needed. Yes it does its job. Just a slight drop in water pressure, no biggie. It is a neat clean system, filters are easy to replace. I have had my system now for 4-5 years and haven't had a single issue with it. It was easy to install and it's very easy to use. Buy the clear one so you can see how dirty the filter gets. Otherwise it's pretty much a guessing game on when the filter needs changing. Filter is often quite dirty before there is a significant drop in water pressure.

Have lived in this home for 29 years. Put in the whole house filter about a year ago and watched the filter become chocolate color around 3 months. Changed the filter, great. Started to wonder why I was getting “Water Hammer” on cold faucets constantly. Called the plumber and he wanted to put in a pressure regulator for $350. I passed. Pressure is 90psi. High I know. But it has always been. I'm online buying new filters for my unit and notice 3 others mention water hammer. Then they mention the bypass position stops the hammer! Swell. Bypass, no hammer. Filter, double hammer. Well what to do? Not going to buy the GXWH35L as was suggested.

After installing the water filter our domestic water piping over-pressurized and a relief valve opened when our hot water heater fired up. We have an expansion tank, but it is located immediately after the cold water supply line enters the house. Unaware the water filter performs like a check valve completely inhibiting any back flow, I installed it downstream from the expansion tank. As such the expansion tank can not perform it's function. The installation instructions fail to mention this. The entire piping arrangement had to be redone installing the expansion tank downstream from the water filter.

Conclusion

Whole water house filters effective in removing contaminants such as sediments, chemicals and other impurities unfit for human health. Now, when looking for the right filter to fit your house, there are many technicalities involved.
