The first cartridge is generally used in both the Basic and Original version of the EHM pitcher. The filter is categorized into 7 stages.
The filtration cartridge comes with different colors which you can specify upon check out.
The Sureflow cartridge is mainly for the EHM ULTRA premium pitcher. It is faster in flow rate. Although it was advertised as having a 6 stages filter, it only consists of 3 different stages.
EHM did not mention on getting their product certified by either NSF or WQA on confirming the capability of the filtration cartridge.
However, most customers agreed that it tasted better from the usual tap water and it did increase the pH compared to the filter.

I am a physician, and have researched the value of alkaline water extensively. However, most alkaline water is only available in plastic 1 liter bottles, which makes them expensive to consume in quantity. When I learned of the EHM Ultra Premium Alkaline Water Pitcher, at such a reasonable price, I ordered it immediately. Now, my town's water supply is actually very good in it's purity and taste… or so I thought. The pitcher was easy to set up with clear directions. Right from the start I could easily taste the difference. The taste reminded me of the best of the store bought plastic bottled alkaline water, and directly comparing my tap water to this filtered water revealed the obvious superiority of using this product. Although I did not have ph paper to check for the change in alkalinity, I then smelled the tap water, and there was a definite smell of chlorine. The filtered water had no such odor, and the product states that both lead and chlorine are among the elements filtered out. The only cautions I would add is not to overfill it, as this puts pressure on the lid, causing some leakage when pouring. Also, the recommendations for filter replacement are after a certain number of liters of water filtered, or a time period. I would suggest, since it is difficult to keep up with the amount filtered as I used it for all of my drinking or cooking water, is that there be included a simple label to write on which could stick to the pitcher, and have the date of the filter installation readily visible in order to order a replacement in a timely manner. In summary, for both taste, and health (helping to neutralize our very acidic diets, which increases the absorption of important nutrients as well as a large number of medications), I have given the product a 5 star recommendation. It is well made, durable, and the filtering process is quite rapid.

After seaching high and low for an Alkaline water pitcher we settled with this one, unfortunately. We really wanted to like this pitcher and it to be the solution to our Alkaline water desires, but it was not meant to be. Two major draw backs:(1) The lid does not fit securely. Iif you have a full pitcher and some water still left in the top chamber becasue the bottom chamber is full, the water will spill out when you pour. You could argue that maybe we should not fill the pitcher so much, but at the end of the day the lid should fit securely, period. (2) This is the one that really brings this product in on the one star level…The filters only last 25% of the claimed production (we tested two filters). This is a big problem and would end up being cost prohibitive over the life of the pitcher. We have both a TDS meter and a Ph meter. Water out of the tap will generally comes in around 6-7. In the beginning the filter will drive the Ph up to around 9-10, which is great; however, that performace quickly drops off. In fact after about 50 gallons there is no increase in Ph over the tap, and somehow the Ph would be lower than the tap on multiple occasions. Additionally, if you are looking for water with ZERO (0) TDS, this will not work. We further tested this pitcher by first running tap water through a ZERO water filter. The result there were ZERO (0) TDS and a Ph to match the tap water, about 6-7. After running through this filter, the TDS would be up to about 150, and the Ph value would fluctuate as already discussed.
Again we wanted this to be the pitcher for Alkaline water, but it simply is not, unless you want to change filters about every week. Back to drawing board here.

Exactly what I needed. I don't know if alkaline water has been medically proven yet, but I believe in it. If cancer can't survive in a properly alkalized body, SIGN ME UP! Water come out of my fridge around 7.0 and I used liquid drops to test the water in this pitcher. It measured between 9 and 10, which is amazing. I know people that spent thousands for actual alkalizing machines. I feel like I've outsmarted them with this product!

As stated in title, filter clogged on my third refill. I just got this item today, eager to try it out based on great reviews. But, the filter jammed and literally not even a single drop was coming out. Waited a while, still nothing even though reservoir was 1/2 full still. Tried emptying everything, made sure all was fitted correctly, tried again. Still clogged. Tried gentle shaking of filter, still nothing. Took everything apart and tried shaking the filter around a bit, this worked but only for about 1/3 of another refill until filter completely JAMMED again, and the water that had already been filtered had tons of charcoal floating around. Very disappointed, feel I was given defective device as I read the provided instructions carefully and followed each step carefully.
Conclusion
In terms of lifespan and replacement, EHM is slightly better than the conventional water pitchers.
