After reading the comments about carrageenan in the chocolate version, my initial thought was to move on to another product entirely. Instead of having a knee-jerk reaction, though, I decided to do better than that and check into it for myself. I found the following question and response in the FAQ section about the Kidz Superfood on the Amazing Greens site, which I found helpful and informative. Not sure when they took it out, but seems carrageenan is no longer an ingredient (and that some of the fears may have been misplaced anyway). So for anyone who would stop considering this because of out-of-date (and potentially uninformed?) reviews, I wanted to share. Misinformation is one of my personal pet peeves…
Your Kidz SuperFood contains carrageenan, is it safe/what is it?
There is some confusion about carrageenan which has cast an unfortunate light on the ingredient. Poligeenan is a chemically degraded derivative of carageenan which is used for industrial (non-food) purposes. Although poligeenan does not possess the thickening or stabilizing properties of carrageenan, it was improperly named “degraded carrageenan” and for a short time the word “carrageenan” was used ambiguously and might refer to either food-grade or degraded carrageenan.Carrageenan is used as a thickening, emulsifying and stabilizing agent in ice cream, yogurt, custards, jellies, cream cheese, cottage cheese and other dairy products as well as chocolate products, pie fillings, salad dressings, soups, soymilk, and as a fat substitute in processed meats, and in toothpaste to mention just a few. There are two types of carrageenan, undegraded (food-grade) and degraded (hydrolyzed with acid). Undegraded carrageenan has been used on a huge scale in food production worldwide since the 1930s, and its safety has been assured by the FDA Gras status. The Joint Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) of the United Nations' Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) gave carrageenan the highest ADI (Accepted Daily Intake) status of 'not specified'. Since it's considered non-toxic the JECFA deemed it unnecessary to express the ADI in numerical form. Chemically treated, degraded carrageenan however, is a known carcinogen (cancer causing agent) and is not used or permitted in food production, but is frequently used to experimentally induce intestinal inflammation in animal studies. Amazing Grass uses the highest quality organic compliant undegraded food grade carrageenan in our Kidz SuperFood. It acts as a thickening agent to help with separation of our powders when mixed into liquid. It comes from red seaweed and is also known as Irish Moss and has grown and been used as a food and children%u2019s cough and cold remedy in that region for hundreds of years. However, since we have received a number of customer concerns and had significant confusion about this ingredient we have removed it from our Kidz SuperFood Chocolate formula. All future productions of Kidz SuperFood Chocolate will use Organic Guar Gum, in place of the organic compliant, food grade carrageenan.

Teething stinks. There are plenty of mornings that my toddler just doesn't want to eat. He just wants something cold to drink. Though he has no weight issue I was worried about vitamin deficiencies. My pediatrician actually recommended this and my toddler loves it! No choco syrup added needed, he drinks it with just milk most times. On busy mornings I throw a packet in one of my blender bottle cups with milk, a banana, and some peanut butter and out the door we run. Even made yogurt pops with it which were a big hit! Lots of ways to use and very helpful during teething and picky eating stage that we are currently in.

Pretty disappointed. It doesnt dissolve in water (even after a full day soaking) and has a gritty consistency. My kid wont drink it.

My son loves the berry flavor. We mix it with almond milk, my 5 yr old will ask if he can have his shake. It does have a vitamin taste so if your kids dont mind having their chewable vitamins they might enjoy this.

Does not stay mixed at all. Then it chunks up. My son rejected it pretty quick. We ended up just putting in our smoothies.

Great product. My daughters both love this and once the picky eater has her chocolate milk she will eat vegetables at dinner when she would not before. We feel much better giving her this instead of a gummy vitamin we cannot trust the quality or effectiveness of.

Got this for my 4yo extremely picky eater. I have to do 4 to 8oz of milk & a small spoonful of another chocolate powder mix in order to disguise the taste of this brand.
