Food Is Our Medicine | Canning Projects
The goal of our Canning Projects is to engage the community in food preservation practice. FIOM project worked closely with Cattaraugus Community Center staff in partnership to establish workshops on demonstrating canning techniques to our community members. There are currently three types of canning activities that incorporate peaches, tomatoes and apples. Peach canning session was first followed by stewed tomatoes, salsa and chili. Our season ended with the canning apples, apple sauce & apple butter.
The peach canning event was held over three days, while both the tomato & apple canning took place over two days at the Cattaraugus Community Center (CCC).
- Over 3,200 total quarts of product were preserved
- 60-95 volunteers attended each event
